Chimney Top — Caps, Covers & Draft

The top of the chimney is the single most cost-effective place to spend money well — a correct cap and a sound chase cover keep water out, and water is what destroys masonry from the inside. Chimney Standard leads with alloy and gauge: stainless and copper because they outlast the chimney, with galvanized offered as the honest budget floor and labeled as such. Every cap, cover, and damper here is sized to your flue from a measurement, never a guessed stock fit.

Liner & Firebox

The category where Chimney Standard draws its hardest line: the high-consequence liner systems are install-only, because a relining job is a fire-safety system, not a box you fit on a Saturday. Alloy is the whole conversation — 316Ti for wood and high heat, 304 where the fuel allows. We supply the firebox repair components and accessory hardware, size every liner to the appliance listing, and install to UL 1777.

Appliances we install — inserts, log sets, gas controls — and hearth accessories you can buy and place. our premium angle on appliances is efficiency-and-correctness: the sealed, EPA-/listing-correct unit and the venting that goes with it, not the cheapest firebox. Gas control is the part we will not let out the door loose; we install and leak-test it. On accessories, we lead with the pieces a discerning homeowner actually wants on a finished hearth.

Copper Chase Cover (Custom-Fabricated)

A chase cover is not a decorative lid — it is the water barrier over a framed chase, and the code-relevant failure is what happens when it ponds. We fabricate in solid copper with a full slope and standing seams so there is no flat area to hold water and no exposed fastener penetrating the drainage plane. Copper carries no coating to fail, which is the whole argument for it. The honest limitation: copper is a finish decision as much as a performance one, and if you dislike a green patina you will not like this cover in five years.

Architectural Multi-Flue Shroud (Decorative)

A shroud is an appearance product and we will not pretend otherwise. What matters from a standards view is that it does not become an obstruction: a shroud sized or seated wrong restricts the flue outlet and changes draft, which is the difference between decoration and a defect. We size the opening area against the flues underneath and set it clear of the crown. If your inspection did not flag a draft problem, a shroud will not create one — and it will not fix one either.

Integrated Crown-Cap Unit (Drip-Edge Crown + Cap)

A cracked crown fails because water gets into the masonry through it. This is the assembly that removes the crown from the water path entirely: a single stainless top that caps every flue and overhangs far enough to throw runoff clear of the brick rather than down it. Where a crown rebuild restores the original detail, this supersedes it. The trade-off is visual — it reads as metal, not masonry, and on a historically detailed chimney that is a real objection.

Powered Draft System (Enervex / Exhausto Inducer + Modulating Control)

Mechanical draft is a legitimate engineered solution and it is also the point at which we have stopped fixing the chimney and started overriding it. A roof inducer with a modulating control will hold draft on a flue that cannot produce it naturally — an undersized flue, a stack shortened by a later addition, a house too tight to supply combustion air. We specify it only after the inspection has ruled out the correctable causes, because a fan on a defective flue is a powered defect.

Cast-In-Place Liner Restoration (GoldenFlue / Supaflu-Style)

When a masonry flue has deteriorated past patching, the standard offers two compliant routes: a listed metal liner or a cast-in-place system. Cast-in-place rebuilds the flue in place — a form is set, a cementitious mix is pumped around it, and what cures is a smooth, insulated, continuous liner bonded to the existing structure. It also structurally reinforces the chimney, which a metal liner does not. It is the more expensive route and it is not reversible; where a stainless liner would serve, we will say so.

Stainless Steel Flexible Liner Kit — Full (316Ti / 304)

A complete listed relining system — liner, insulation where required, top plate, cap, tee or connector, clamps — because a liner is only compliant as a full assembly. The specification decision that actually matters is alloy: 316Ti for anything producing acidic condensate, 304 where the fuel does not warrant it. Choosing 304 to save money on the wrong appliance is the most common and most expensive error we correct. The kit is sized to the appliance, not to the existing tile.

Gas Fireplace Insert — Direct-Vent Sealed Combustion

A sealed direct-vent appliance installed into an existing masonry firebox, taking combustion air from outside and venting to outside through a coaxial system. From a standards view the significant word is sealed: room air is not consumed and combustion products do not enter the room, which is what separates this from a log set. It is a listed appliance installed to its own instructions, and those instructions govern the venting run, the clearances, and the terminations — not the original chimney's dimensions.

Wood-Burning Fireplace Insert — EPA-Certified

An EPA-certified wood insert converts an open fireplace into a controlled appliance, and the certification is the point: emissions and efficiency are tested and published, not claimed. Installation requires a continuous listed liner from the appliance to the top — connecting an insert to a bare masonry flue is a common and serious error. Honest note: a certified appliance operated on wet wood performs like an uncertified one. The rating describes the equipment, not the fire you build in it.

Cast-Stone Fireplace Surround / Mantel Kit (Full)

The visible face around the firebox opening. The compliance issue that governs it is clearance to combustibles — a mantel shelf and any projecting trim have required minimum distances above the opening, and the required distance grows with how far the shelf projects. We measure the opening and the wall, then size the surround so the detail you want is achievable within those clearances. Where a design would violate them, we will tell you before it is fabricated, not after.
