Gas Fireplace Insert — Direct-Vent Sealed Combustion

A sealed direct-vent appliance installed into an existing masonry firebox, taking combustion air from outside and venting to outside through a coaxial system. From a standards view the significant word is sealed: room air is not consumed and combustion products do not enter the room, which is what separates this from a log set. It is a listed appliance installed to its own instructions, and those instructions govern the venting run, the clearances, and the terminations — not the original chimney's dimensions.

Wood-Burning Fireplace Insert — EPA-Certified

An EPA-certified wood insert converts an open fireplace into a controlled appliance, and the certification is the point: emissions and efficiency are tested and published, not claimed. Installation requires a continuous listed liner from the appliance to the top — connecting an insert to a bare masonry flue is a common and serious error. Honest note: a certified appliance operated on wet wood performs like an uncertified one. The rating describes the equipment, not the fire you build in it.

Cast-Stone Fireplace Surround / Mantel Kit (Full)

The visible face around the firebox opening. The compliance issue that governs it is clearance to combustibles — a mantel shelf and any projecting trim have required minimum distances above the opening, and the required distance grows with how far the shelf projects. We measure the opening and the wall, then size the surround so the detail you want is achievable within those clearances. Where a design would violate them, we will tell you before it is fabricated, not after.

Vented Gas Log Set — Yellow-Flame (Peterson Real Fyre)

A refractory log set burning in an operating chimney with the damper open. It is a decorative appliance, and the standard treats it as one — the yellow flame that makes it look like a wood fire is a lower-temperature, soot-producing flame by design. The chimney must be sound and open for it, and it must be inspected as a working flue. If your interest is heat rather than appearance, this is the wrong product and a sealed insert is the right one.

Ventless (Vent-Free) Gas Log Set with ODS Burner

A vent-free set runs with the flue closed, and its safety case rests entirely on one component: the oxygen-depletion sensor, which shuts the burner down as oxygen falls. That is a real listed safety device and it is also the reason these appliances are restricted or prohibited in some jurisdictions and prohibited in bedrooms and bathrooms in most. We confirm local acceptance before fitting one. Also stated plainly: all the combustion moisture stays in the room, which some houses do not tolerate well.

Glass Fireplace Doors — Masonry, Custom-Sized

Tempered glass and steel doors sized to a masonry opening. They reduce the draft loss through an open fireplace when it is not in use, and they are a barrier when it is. The operating rule that gets missed: doors on a wood-burning masonry fireplace are used open while a fire is actively burning and closed as it dies down — running a fire behind closed doors overheats the glass and the frame. If nobody tells you that, the doors will fail early.

Manual safety-pilot or millivolt valve assembly — the component that makes a log set a controllable, code-correct appliance rather than an open gas outlet. This is the one line on this counter we will not sell as a part for someone else to fit. Gas control is licensed work, it is leak-tested on completion, and it is documented. If you are shopping this to install yourself, we would rather lose the sale than be the supplier of record on it.

Gas Burner Pan / Pan-Burner Assembly (Stainless)

A stainless pan burner sitting beneath the media bed on a gas appliance. It distributes flame across the full width instead of a single line, which is what produces an even fire rather than a row of jets. Stainless because the pan lives in the corrosive, wet end of the appliance. It is licensed gas work to fit, it is leak-tested on completion, and the media above it has to be arranged so the ports stay clear — an over-filled bed on a good burner still lights badly.

Electronic Ignition / Spark-to-Pilot Conversion Kit

Replaces a standing pilot with spark-to-pilot ignition, so the pilot lights on demand instead of burning year-round. The saving is real and it is modest — a standing pilot consumes gas continuously, including all summer. The trade-off is honest and worth knowing: electronic ignition needs power, so an appliance you relied on during an outage no longer works during one. In Texas, after 2021, some homeowners consider that decisive. Licensed gas work either way.

The coaxial cap and horizontal vent components that terminate a direct-vent appliance through a wall. These are listed parts of the appliance's vent system, and the manufacturer's instructions govern the run length, the number of elbows, and the required clearance from windows, doors, soffits and grade. Those clearances are not advisory. We supply the kit listed for your appliance and set it to the instructions rather than to what fits the wall.

No combustion, no flue, no gas, no clearance-to-combustibles calculation on the vent side — an electric unit sits outside most of what this counter otherwise concerns itself with. It is a decor product with a modest resistive heater, and the honest specification is that its heat output is limited to what the circuit can deliver. Where it earns its place is a room with no chimney and no gas line, where the alternative is nothing.

Self-Feeding Tube Heat-Exchanger Grate

A tubular grate that convects room air through the fire and returns it warmed. On an open masonry fireplace — which is otherwise close to a net heat loss — that is a genuine, measurable gain, and it is the only way to improve one without changing the appliance. It does not make an open fireplace efficient; it makes it less bad. If real heat output is the goal, the honest recommendation remains a sealed insert, and we will say so before selling you the grate.

Fireplace Tool Set (Stand + Poker, Shovel, Brush, Tongs)

Stand, poker, shovel, brush and tongs in forged iron. There is no standard governing hearth tools and we will not invent one. What we will say is the practical part: the tools that survive are the heavy ones, the ones that fail are the light plated sets whose handles loosen in a season. Sold because a working hearth needs them and because the set that came with the house is usually the one that failed.

Cast-Iron Fireplace Grate (Log Holder)

A heavy bar grate lifting the fuel so air reaches it from beneath — which is what produces a cleaner, hotter burn instead of a smouldering one. The specification that matters is bar gauge, not appearance. Thin grates warp within a season and then burn through, and the replacement cycle costs more than the heavy grate would have. Buy it once. In a fireplace with an insert, incidentally, you do not need one at all.

Fire Glass Media / Ember-Bed Kit

Heat-rated tempered glass or refractory embers forming the burner bed on a gas appliance. Two requirements, both real: the media must be rated for the application, and it must be arranged so it does not obstruct the burner ports or the pilot assembly. Ordinary decorative glass is not rated and can fracture. The arrangement is not decorative freedom — an over-filled bed is the most common cause of a gas fireplace that will not light reliably.

Gas Log Lighter Bar (Natural Gas / Propane)

A perforated gas bar under the grate whose only purpose is to start a wood fire and then be shut off. It is not a gas log set, it is not intended to run with wood burning above it, and running it that way is how the bar warps and the orifices clog. Fitted with a proper key valve and leak-tested. The honest note: it is a convenience item on a working wood fireplace, and if you never actually burn wood you do not need one.
