The category where Chimney Standard draws its hardest line: the high-consequence liner systems are install-only, because a relining job is a fire-safety system, not a box you fit on a Saturday. Alloy is the whole conversation — 316Ti for wood and high heat, 304 where the fuel allows. Cast-In-Place Liner Restoration (GoldenFlue / Supaflu-Style)

When a masonry flue has deteriorated past patching, the standard offers two compliant routes: a listed metal liner or a cast-in-place system. Cast-in-place rebuilds the flue in place — a form is set, a cementitious mix is pumped around it, and what cures is a smooth, insulated, continuous liner bonded to the existing structure. It also structurally reinforces the chimney, which a metal liner does not. It is the more expensive route and it is not reversible; where a stainless liner would serve, we will say so.

Stainless Steel Flexible Liner Kit — Full (316Ti / 304)

A complete listed relining system — liner, insulation where required, top plate, cap, tee or connector, clamps — because a liner is only compliant as a full assembly. The specification decision that actually matters is alloy: 316Ti for anything producing acidic condensate, 304 where the fuel does not warrant it. Choosing 304 to save money on the wrong appliance is the most common and most expensive error we correct. The kit is sized to the appliance, not to the existing tile.

Liner Insulation Blanket Wrap Kit (¼" / ½", UL 1777)

Insulation on a stainless liner is not an accessory. It is what allows a liner to carry its listing at reduced clearance to combustibles, and it keeps flue gases warm enough to stay above condensation temperature on the way up. Ceramic blanket, mesh and banding, applied to the thickness the listing calls for. We treat it as standard specification rather than an upsell — an uninsulated liner in a masonry chase is a slower, colder, dirtier flue.

Refractory Firebox Panel Set (Prefab / Masonry Replacement)

A factory-built firebox is a listed assembly and its refractory panels are listed parts of it. A cracked panel is not cosmetic damage — it is a breach in the barrier between fire and the steel shell, and the listing does not survive it. Replacement panels are matched to the manufacturer and model, not approximated. Where the correct panel is no longer produced, the honest answer is that the firebox is at end of life and the fix is replacement, not a generic panel forced to fit.

Cast-Iron Throat Damper Assembly (Poker / Rotary Control)

A throat damper controls flow; it does not seal, and it was never listed to. Cast-iron plate and frame at the smoke-chamber throat with poker or rotary control, replacing an assembly that has rusted or lost its seat. Worth being direct: if your reason for replacing it is heat loss through an open flue, this is the wrong purchase — a top-sealing damper at the outlet is what actually stops that, and it caps the chimney at the same time.

Liner Connection & Termination Hardware (Tee, Top Plate, Connector)

Tee, top plate, connector and clamps — the parts that make a liner an assembly rather than a pipe in a hole. The listing that covers your liner covers these components with it, which is why substituting a generic connector is not a small economy. Top plate seals and supports at the crown, tee brings the appliance in at the right angle, clamps hold the joints against thermal movement. Unremarkable hardware; the failure point when it is wrong is the whole system.

Smoke Guard / Adjustable Fireplace Hood

An adjustable steel band that lowers the effective height of the fireplace opening. The reason it works is arithmetic: a fireplace spills when its opening is too large for the flue area feeding it, and reducing the opening restores that ratio. It is the cheap, reversible fix for a fireplace built with the wrong proportions. It is also visible, and some homeowners hate it — worth seeing one before committing. It does nothing for a flue that is blocked or too short.

Firebrick / Refractory Split-Brick Set

Rated firebrick for rebuilding or patching a masonry firebox. The specification point is simply that common brick is not permitted here and does not survive here — firebox brick is rated for the temperature and laid in refractory mortar, not standard mortar. Sold as boxed rated brick for the repair scope your inspection identified. If more than a small area is failing, patching is a deferral rather than a repair, and the report should say which one you are buying.

Cast-Iron Fireback

A cast plate standing against the back wall of the firebox. It reflects heat forward and, more usefully from our side, it takes the direct thermal load off the masonry it covers — which is exactly where firebox walls fail first. It is one of the few products here that is simultaneously decorative and protective. It is not a repair: a fireback set against already-cracked brick hides the defect without addressing it, and we will not fit one over damage.

Chimney Cleanout / Ash-Pit Door (Steel / Cast-Iron, Framed)

A framed, gasketed, lockable door at the base of the chimney. Its job is access — clearing the ash pit, removing debris after a sweep — and its secondary job matters more than people expect: a cleanout that does not close properly is an uncontrolled air opening into the flue, which affects draft and lets ash out into the room or crawlspace. Small part, real consequence. We replace the frame with the door; a new door in a corroded frame seals nothing.
